You may have noticed that the countdown on our blog has reached zero and we still haven’t announced a start date for a trip. There are a few reasons this has happened.
The result of all of this is that we are very busy dealing with our cars from Japan, and our Lada is making progress towards being done in the meantime. We are tentatively planning on picking up our Lada in September and taking a shorter version of our original road trip.
In the meantime I will be posting updates on our cars from Japan for those interested. Bird and I have posted some write ups on another blog already, so I’ll repost them here.
Thank you to all of you for your support and encouragement on both Restoroadtrip and our Japanese Import dream.
When we started planning this trip a big part of the idea was to go to Russia and Ukraine and meet with car groups there. We have decided to postpone our trip and leave in early June instead of early May. We still might have to change the route of our trip, but this at least gives us a chance at being able to go everywhere we want to go. Not being able to meet the people who inspired us is unfortunate, but our thoughts are with those whose lives are affected. We sincerely hope for a quick and peaceful resolution to the situation.

I found several bags I liked at REI and had pretty much decided on a North Face commuter style bag, but then an employee asked me if I needed any help. I told him I was looking for a backpack. And then came the question: “What are you going to use it for?” I think this is the first time I’ve described our trip to a total stranger. I explained that we were planning an epic European road trip and I needed a backpack that I could carry around all day. I showed him the list of things I thought I would need to fit.
